Ramayan TRP 2020: Shatters All Records by a Margin

Ramayan first Aired on Indian Televisions in 1987 and ended in 1988, but a Rerun of Ramayan During 21 Day Lockdown in 2020 has broken all the TRP records.


Ramayan TRP 2020: The Legend “Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan” has garnered the highest TRPs for a Hindi GEC shows since 2015 in a comeback to Indian Televisions.

The Rerun of the Show began on March 28th, 2020 amidst a National Lockdown which ends on 14th April 2020 if all goes as per expectations. In an official statement released by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Thursday, the show has surpassed each and every GEC since 2015.

What has been witnessed on Indian Television during the last few days is Pure Nostalgia and the impact of viewership is just like the IPL Finals of 2019. This is a three-decade-old show which is also available on Youtube.

Ramayan TRP 2020: Analysis

According to the Week 12 Report of 2020 as per Data by BARC India, the telecast of the first 4 episodes of Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan earned an average of 28.7 million impressions per episode. The Saturday Episode earned 19.7 Million Impressions while the Sunday viewership simply upscaled to 37.9 million impressions.

The IPL 2019 finals had earned 55.6 million impressions while the 2018 final earned 39.5 million impressions. And if you compare that to a 3 decade-old program which has very high viewership on OTT platforms also simply came near these figures which are majestic.

On average, Each Episode of Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan earned 42.6 million impressions per episode. While the total impressions during this time stand at a huge 6.9 million impressions.

This is one of the few initiatives by the Government Of India which motivates and helps in people to stay at home as there were many old serials that came into rerun during this time.

If we compare these figures to the TRP of Indian Films then the Bollywood films look like a mere minion in front of these numbers. The best of the numbers reported for Indian films run into a maximum of 1.68 Crores of 16.8 million impressions which Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan on Doordarshan has suppressed despite being a three-decade-old program and readily available to watch free of cost on various OTT platforms.
