Mrs. Serial Killer Review: Due to the sheer presence of Manoj Bajpayee and Jacqueline Fernandez the expectations from any project becomes very high.

However, movies releasing on online platforms or Over the Top Platforms (OTT Platforms) have their limitations as the business model completely changes and there is a limitation on production values and moreover when it comes to Indian Productions.

Mrs. Serial Killer Review: Story Analysis

The Film Stars Manoj Bajpayee as Mrityunjoy Mukherjee, Jacqueline Fernandez as Sona Mukherjee and Mohit Raina as Inspector Imran Shahid in key roles while they are ably supported by a good support cast in form of Darshan Zariwala as Advocate Brij Rastogi and Zayn Marie Khan as Anushka Tiwari.

The film is directed by Shirish Kunder and is produced by Shirish Kunder and Farah Khan.

The film starts with Sona Mukherjee in captivity of Anushka Tiwari and it gives the impression that she is about to kill her setting the initial tune to the title of the film. In the next scene, we travel a little back into time where Sona is Talking to her Husband Dr. Mrityunjoy Mukherjee over a video as he is on a foreign tour and just when she finishes the call, her ex-boyfriend enters her home who is now an Inspector and stats looking for some stuff which threatens her.

Next scene, the story shifts to an old mansion that is Owned By Dr. Mukherjee and a series of murders unfolds. All the evidence proves that it is Dr. Mukherjee who is the serial killer and on returning back to India he is immediately sent to Police custody.

At this point, Dr. Mukherjee Tells Sona that she needs to Approach Advocate Rastogi as he is bring framed. Advocate Rastogi applies for his bail but he is unable to secure the bail and then he suggests to Sona that if r. Mukherjee has to avoid a Life Sentence or a Death Term then they have to prove that the serial killer is still outside.

In order to save her husband, Sona targets Anushka Tiwari who is an unmarried pregnant lady just like the other victims of the serial killer.

The plot revolves around this and Dr. Mukherjee secures a Bail as it is proved in the court that serial killer is still on the loose. The rest of the story moves quickly as the suspense over the real killer reveals quickly.

The run time of the movie is just 106 minutes.

Mrs. Serial Killer Review: Cinematography and Art Direction

Just like other Netflix films, there is a tint of red in this one also and the setting is completely eerie suiting the premise of the film. The premise is set in India but the treatment to the whole premise is still very foreign, this is an experiment by Netflix where they can produce low budget movies with big stars and if these type of things start working in their Key Markets Like North America, Canada and Some non-English speaking countries. Then they are really looking at the very cost-effective business operations where the Filmmakers who are not able to hit mainstream films at ticket windows can get a lot of work.

Big actors take this opportunity as a medium to reach a wider audience which then translates into additional business for their films at the overseas box office. This is a Real Paradigm shift happening right now.

The cinematography department is handled by Ravi K. Chandran and Kiran Deohans and they do a superb job at it when it comes to outdoor sequences.

The art department however really needed to work hard when it comes to interiors scenes as the interior sets look tacky and work in progress.

Mrs. Serial Killer Review: Performances

Manoj Bajpayee is a genius and this film is a living testimony to it. He gets to play several shades and completely excels in each one of them. While it’s unfair to comment on all the aspects as of now as the film is a Thriller.

Jacqueline Fernandez charters a territory which she has not tried before and comes out okay as the role goes against her glamorous Avatars audience is used to While Mohit Raina as Inspector Imran Does okay.

However, Darshan Zariwala as Advocate Brij Rastogi and Zayn Marie Khan as Anushka Tiwari excels in their roles and brings the much-needed character to the film which just depends on the artists and the surroundings.

Mrs. Serial Killer Review: Direction

Shirish Kunder tries something new and he does okay with the plot given to him.

However, one department which has excelled in the overall settings is the background score. And it just hooks onto you and suits the premise of the film perfectly.

Mrs. Serial Killer Review: Final Word

The film will be heavily criticized by the Indian Critics as the Director himself has poor credentials and the leading lady of the film which has got the eyeballs rolling towards this project is seen in a more foreign type of Avatar then her usual glamorous self.

However, the film makes for a decent watch as it keeps you thrilled with the suspense, the film is only 106 minutes which does not stretch. We will recommend it and you can stream it to have some good time in this Lockdown.
