Malang 1st Day (Friday): The film marks the return of Mohit Suri as a Director with Aditya Roy Kapoor and it’s a Romantic Thriller.

The film dwells into the past and present in some high octane action sequences and the genre and canvas of the film are pretty wide and had the potential to appeal to the audience to each level.

Malang 1st Day (Friday) Box Office Collection Report: Occupancy

The film opened to decent occupancy in the early morning slots with 13% ticket sales and in the morning slots, it remained flat with 15% ticket sales. However, these numbers were pretty decent and the film was well-positioned to open to a big first day.

However, when the early afternoon reports came in which also had single screens joining in the growth was just flat with just 18% ticket sales and it did not improve in further afternoon slows and just sold 22% off tickets in afternoon slots.

In the evening shows the single screens remained flat with just 25% occupancy while Multiplexes at bigger centers did register occupancy in range of 40% in the evening shows.

The night shows also did no show too much improvement but the film was able to put up a respectable total due to evening and night shows at multiplexes.

Malang 1st Day (Friday) Box Office Collection Report:

The problem with Malang was the flat performance throughout the day as that does not signify a very good word of mouth. Nowadays, word of mouth spread faster than we think, thanks to various social media channels and personal advocacy and that spark was clearly missing from the performance of the film.

In fact, single screens and multiplexes contributed almost equal ticket sales throughout the day with the difference coming in the night and evening shows.

Malang is competing with films like Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior (5th Week) and a direct clash with Vidhu Vinod Chopra film Shikara.

The early trends suggest that Malang First Day is heading towards an Rs. 6.71 Cr and Shikara has not perfomed as per the expectations with just collections in the range of Rs. 1.2 cr on its the first day.

Today, theatres in Delhi will be shut due to elections which going by the flat trend of the first day means that Saturday’s collections can be lower than Friday, which will be very bad if that happens.
