Laxmii Movie Review: This Akshay Kumar Starer Is Nowhere Near To The Original Film

Laxmii premiered on Disney+Hotstar on 9th November. Here is the review of the film.

Laxmii Movie Review: As the theatres & multiplexes are closed in many areas due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many films have taken the route of releasing on OTT Platforms. Gulabo Sitabo was the first film to release on OTT during the start of the pandemic, followed by big movies like Dil Bechara, Shakuntala Devi, Sadak 2 & more. The latest film to release is Akshay Kumar & Kiara Advani starer “Laxmii”.

Previously the film was scheduled to release on the occasion of Eid alongside Radhe but due to the current situation, the filmmakers decided to release the film on Disney + Hotstar. The film is the remake of South Indian horror-comedy Kanchana.

So does the film is up to the expectations of the audience lets find out.

Laxmii Movie Review: Story

Laxmii story starts with Rashmi (played by Kiara Advani) who is called by her mother on the occasion of their 25th anniversary. Rashmi sees this as an opportunity to reunite with her family & also takes her husband Asif (played by Akshay Kumar) with him.

Asif is a lover boy in the film and he is keen to do anything for her wife. When he came to know about the anniversary invitation he became very happy. He sees this as an opportunity to reunite Rashmi with her family and also make some place for him in their hearts.

Asif has an established business of marbles & granite and is also a senior executive of Aavam committee who fights against the beliefs of supernatural spirit & ghosts.

Rashmi is proud of her husband’s profession and proudly tells everyone about it.  There is a scene in the film when kids refuse to play on the ground due to an evil spirit present there. Asif cleared that area and tells everyone that he will play a cricket match on that abandoned land.

The soil of that ground starts to get in the air and there is a thunder-like situation with dark clouds covering the sky. While the dried autumn leaves cover the face. The witch who was resting there has awakened and will punish the culprit i.e. Asif for destroying her peace. The spirit makes her way to Asif home and that’s where the madness in the film begins. Who is it? What does she want from Asif forms the rest of the film?

Laxmii Movie Review: Screenplay

The film is the remake of South-Indian horror-comedy Kanchana, Laxmii screenplay has been done by masala movie maker Farhad Samji who has many loopholes in this. Laxmii doesn’t have a single decent one-liner to lift up the comedy & actors are also lacking timing. Farhad works hard in trying to give a Conjuring effect at times but fails miserably. The ghost is a transgender with an unfished business but the film has lacked execution. The film is also not up to the marg as per comedy standards also.

Laxmii Movie Review: Direction

This horror-comedy is directed by Raghava Lawrence who has also helmed Kanchana and plays the lead in the South-Indian film. The direction is decent but lacks clarity at many points. He is let down by the writing of the film. The direction seems to pull up the slow & lack of clarity in the plot of the film. The film is nowhere near its original version.

Laxmii Movie Review: Music

The music of the film is done by Tanishk Bagchi, Anup Kumar & Shashi-Khushi. The music adapts to the scene of the film. Burj Khalifa song made a very good buzz among the audience due to the Burj Khalifa dance challenge by the filmmakers and is in the top song list of chartbusters. Bambholle song has also grabbed the attention of the audience due to the energetic beats and dance performance of Akshay Kumar. Other songs of the film failed to make the mark.

Laxmii Movie Review: Performances

The film carries on the shoulder of Akshay Kumar and he has perfectly into the character. The character is physically demanding and Akshay Kumar has done very well to make it look perfect. He has again proved his versatility and has given a very good performance. Kiara Advani looks very beautiful in the character of Rashmi but has limited screen time.

Sharad Kelkar has done a great job in this film and is the surprise package. He along with other actors tries to lift the film in the second half but due to bad writing & screenplay, the film failed to make an impact. Rajesh Sharma, Manu Rishi Chadha, Ayesha Raza, Ashwini Kalsekar, Tarun Arora, and Prachee Shah has done a decent job in the film

Laxmii Movie Review: Final Verdict

The film has been shot in a decent manner but due to poor writing, bad screen timing, Screenplay the film fails to make an impact. The audience had very high expectations from the film but it disappoints. The actors tried very hard to lift up the film but due to many technical flaws, the film is not up to the marg and is nowhere near to original version Kanchana.

The film created a very good buzz before its release but fails to deliver. It is good that the film has been released on OTT platform otherwise the distributors would have suffered big losses.
