Dil Bechara Movie Review: Story

Dil Bechara is a unique love story of two youngsters suffering from illness. The story of the film revolves around Kizie Basu (played by Sanjana Sanghi) who was born in Zambia but later shifted to Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) with her parents (played by Saswata Chatterjee & Swastika Mukherjee). Her life completely changed when she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and she has to wear a pipe around her nose and carry an oxygen cylinder all time that she named Pushpinder and considered it as his only friend.

Suddenly, one day during her college fest she meets Manny (played by Sushant Singh Rajput). During their first meet, Kizie found Manny a bit arrogant and loud and avoided him. But later she found out that Manny too was suffering from Osteosarcoma (Cancer)  due to which one of his legs was cut down.

Later Kizie found out that Manny lives his life to the fullest despite losing one leg and doesn’t consider it as a deficiency. This made Kizie like him even more. They started to spent time together and explore various places in the beautiful Jamshedpur city. They acted in a film of their friend JP (played by Sahil Vaid) who aspires to make a romantic film.

Kizie tells Manny about the album she loves “Main Tumhara” of the musician Abhimanyu Veer (played by Saif Ali Khan) who is in a special appearance and leaves an impact. At first, Manny found the album boring but later starts to love it. He tells Kizie that he fell in love with the album but it is incomplete and she also feels the same.  Then she tells him about her dream to meet Abhimanyu Veer and ask him why he didn’t complete the album.

Manny then realizes that Kizie’s biggest dream is to meet the musician and found his email address. Kizie then writes an email to Abhimanyu Veer that how much she loves his album and has a wish to know the reason why he didn’t complete it and meet him. Abhimanyu replies to the mail and tells her that he lives in Paris and whenever she comes to Paris he will meet her.

Soon Kizie tells her parents that she wants to go to Paris to fulfill her dream and meet Abhimanyu Veer. Her parents are against her decision as they feel that it is unsafe to travel to Paris in this health condition. They asked Dr. Jha who is Kizie doctor and looks after her health. He tells that he can only allow traveling on one condition if Kizie’s mother too joins the trip and travel with her to take good care of her. Soon her parents get convinced and Manny arranges the tickets to travel to Paris.

But a few days before her Paris trip the health fell down and she had a stroke and gets hospitalized. What happens next forms the plot of the film.

Dil Bechara Movie Review: Screenplay

Dil Bechara is an official remake of the Hollywood film “The Fault In Our Stars”. The screenplay of the film is done by Suprotim Sengupta and he has done a decent job. The characters and scenes are very entertaining and you will feel connected at times. The dialogues of Sashank Khaitan are conventional and adds a filmy touch. And the dialogues of Abhimanyu Veer are out of the box.

Dil Bechara Movie Review: Direction

The film is directed by Mukesh Chabra who is making his directorial debut with this one. He has done justice with his work as you will fall in love with the characters. The film has a very good pace but gets slow in the second half but bounce back in the end. The film is very is just 1 hour 40 minutes long and is not unnecessarily stretched.  The scenes are involving and you will feel connected to it right from their first meet to the last scene. Overall in his first work as a director, Mukesh Chabra has done a good job.

Dil Bechara Movie Review: Music

The film music is composed by the legendary A R Rahman and adopts well with every scene of the film. The title song of the film is currently on the top of the chartbuster and it is shot in one take which makes it even more special. Another song Taare Gin Gin is also beautifully composed and the rest of the songs are also good. A R Rahman background score is also powerful and leaves a drastic impact.

Dil Bechara Movie Review: Performances

Dil Bechara totally belongs to Sushant Singh Rajput as he has performed his character very well and adds charm to it. And we all have surely lost a gem of an actor too soon. His character will make you laugh when he lives his life to the fullest in the film and cry in the finale scene of the film.

Sanjana Sanghi has done a beautiful job in her debut film and leaves and will leave a strong impact on the viewers. Sashwata Chatterjee excels in the role of the father of Kizie and is very adorable in the film. Swastika Mukherjee has also done a good job as a typical Bengali mother of Kizie Basu.

Sahid Vaid in the role of Manny’s best friend JP has played his part well. Saif Ali Khan in a special appearance as Abhimanyu Veer is very unique and makes his presence felt in the film. Overall all the characters of the film has done a very good job.

Dil Bechara Movie Review: Final Verdict

The film is very beautifully shot both in Jamshedpur and in Paris and captured their beautiful spots. The characters and story of the film are quite convincing and will touch your heart. During this time this one should be on your list of must-watch films this weekend. It will be a very difficult watch for all the Sushant Singh Rajput fans as we will not witness any more performance of him.

Sushant Singh Rajput has done many good performances in his short career in films like MS DhoniChhichhore. But with this one, Sushant Singh Rajput will remain in our hearts forever. Go and watch this one it is worth your time.
